Cub Scouts

Cub scouting is a wonderful environment for your boy to learn outside of a school classroom.  Of course, making scouting fun is what it’s all about and what the leadership strives for.  Camping trips are very popular and occur at least once a year. The boys also participate in other activities such as Christmas parades, trash pick-ups and other civic activities.

The majority of a Pack’s activity occurs at the den level.  That is where the scout really learns how to interact with their fellow den members and many different skills.  Parent involvement is required for a boy to be involved.  For example, when the cubs go camping, a parent must attend with their child.  The same goes for the den and Pack meetings but most parents cherish the time they get to spend with their boy(s) in these settings.

Scouting is thriving in Orange County NC, which includes Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and several other smaller communities.  We’re lucky to have excellent leadership at the District (county) level and that makes a big difference on the individual Packs (Cubs) and Troops (Boy Scout).  Cub Scouts is part of the Boy Scouts of America and is where the Boy Scout troops derive most of their members.

Boys can join the Cub Scouts as early as first grade and must be 6 years or older.  Each grade level has its own name for their den, Tigers (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), etc. and the great thing is boys can join any time they’d like.  In other words, a boy can join in the 3rd grade without having been a Tiger or Wolf.
